BARROW, Alaska, Dec. 17.— Whiskers are helping isolated Barrow residents relieve the monotony of the long arctic winter night, and right now hirsute adornments are being groomed for prizes to be given Christmas day. The latest fad among the men is to grow mustaches like those of famous people. Hitler, Stalin and Einstein are among those with their Barrow counterparts. Contestants said the only trouble with a fur lip was that it frosts, forming icicles. Many white residents are taking sun baths under the hospital's sun lamp and are boasting a tropical tan, although there hasn't been a good day's sunshine up here for weeks.
