MERCY SHIP IS OFF TO ALASKA SEATTLE, May 15.—(U.E)—On her annual mission of mercy and safety, the coast guard cutter Northland will leave today for her annual visit to Arctic waters. Duties of the Northland are to safeguard life and shipping in Alaskan waters. The cutter's officers serve as judges in civil and criminal courts in isolated districts of Alaska, take medical and dental equipment to natives, inspect fisheries and enforce navigation laws.
