Description
Summary:Boat Dares Ice To Save Woman. BOAT DARES ICE TO SAVE WOMAN ST. PAUL ISLAND, Alaska, .June 7. (/P)—Acting on wirelessed calls for help, the United States coast through foggy ice fields toward Sevoonga. St. Lawrence island. The cutter was informed that Mrs. T. S. Scupholm, wife of the United States bureau of education representative at the tiny Eskimo settlement, and the only white woman on the island, is seriously ill. Her husband, who radioed for help, has been following instructions received by wireless from doctors at Nome and aboard the Northland. The Scupholms are isolated on the island during all but a few months of the yea, when vessels can pierce the ice pack. Their only contact with the outside world is through the radio.
