Description
Summary:Aged Alaskan's Sight Restored. Aged Alaskan's Sight Restored SITKA, Alaska, May 1.—(/P)— J. E Kenney, his eyesight restored by the humanitarian impulse and deft fingers of an eastern specialist, was enabled to leave the Pioneers' Home and return to his Wasilla residence this week. Dr. John E. Weeks, eye specialist, on vacation last season, chanced to visit the territorial home for aging Sourdoughs here and saw Kenney, totally blind inmate. The specialist became interested in the case, postponed his own vacation plans and operated. Kenney, blessing his benefactor, has been enabled to take up life where he left off, and the.Ketchikan Chronicle declared editorially this week that "even if all the other tourists who came to Alaska did nothing of lasting good, the voluntary service of Dr. Weeks in restoring Mr. Kenney's sight must, alone, be ample evidence that the tourist, as -a class, is valuable to Alaska."
