Description
Summary:Alaskan Utility Successful Under Public Ownership. Alaskan Utility Successful Under Public Ownership KETCHIKAN, Alaska, Sept. 6— The first month under municipal ownership was successful for the Ketchikan Public Utilities. The telephone, electric and water utilities in July earned some $14,000, according to a report made to the board of control. The peak load carried in July was the greatest electric load in any July in the history of the plant. Similarly, the peak load in the week of Aug. 4 was the highest load carried in the history of the plant in any week. Some 800,000 kilowatt hours were delivered to the system in July compared with only half that in July last year. The increase was believed due to unusually heavy salmon cannery operations and not to the fact of municipal ownership. The city was able to meet its first interest payment on $960,000 of outstanding bonds without difficulty as of Sept. 1. For the next six months, funds will be accumulated in a reserve.
