Description
Summary:‘Lots Of Ducks,’ Says Anchorage. ‘Lots Of Ducks,’ Says Anchorage. ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Thursday, Oct. 15.— (/P) —Duck hunters at Anchorage today berated gunners in Juneau and Southeastern Alaska for urging closing of the water fowl season next year because birds were scarce in "flyways" and usual resting places in the "Panhandle." Hastily counting the noggins of all ducks in sight and comparing notes with every 12-gauge toter available, a delegation of hunters informed The Anchorage Times there was no shortage of birds. "It's been such mild weather around here the ducks haven't gone on south," was the explanation given the newspaper. "It may be winter on the Arctic slope, but it isn't here." They predicted Juneau shooters presently would see many ducks and intimated the southeastern hunters were "viewing with alarm" much too early. Some sportsmen at Juneau opened the annual rumpus with their western brethren by announcing ducks were scarce and the season should be closed.
