Description
Summary:Wilkins To Abandon Moonlight Flights. WILKINS TO ABANDON MOONLIGHT FLIGHTS BARROW, Alaska, Jan. 11. (/P)— Sir Hubert Wilkins today abandoned his plans for moonlight flights over the arctic wastes from Point Barrow in search of Sigismund Levaneffsky and the Russian flyers lost August 13 on a transpolar flight. Wilkins shifted his base to Aklavik, in the extreme northwest corner of the district of Mackenzie, Canadian territory, this morning. The party expected to make the Barrow-Mackenzie flight in four hours. Wilkins said he would search from Aklavik to latitude 80, longitude 145 in northeastern Alaska, then north to latitude 86, back along longitude 148 and then return to Aklavik.
