Description
Summary:First Picture Of Wilkins At Spitzbergen. First Picture of Wilkins at Spitzbergen This picture is the first one to reach the United States showing the airplane in which Captain George H. Wilkins and Lieutenant Carl B. Eielson flew from Alaska to Green Harbor, Spitzbergen. Note the ski runners instead of wheels which make up the landing equipment of the ship. The engine is being covered to protect it from the low temperature of the frozen north. Wilkins has offered the services of the two flyers to Premier Mussolini in case the latter wants them to join in the search for the missing dirigible Italia.
