Description
Summary:Flyers Travel Ice Afoot: Fox Film Men, Safe At Point Barrow, Tell Hardships. FLYERS TRAVEL ICE AFOOT Fox Film Men, Safe at Point Barrow, Tell Hardships. FAIRBANKS, Alaska, June 5. (/P) —Fragmentary stories of extreme hardships suffered when forced down by fog in snowbound northern Alaska were received here late today from Fox film expedition members a few hours after first word of their safe arrival at Point Barrow. The story of how three of the expedition's members walked nearly 100 miles in snow and bitter cold was relayed from Kotzebue by Matt Niemlnen and Richard Heyser, relief plane flyers, who returned just as a second relief plane was about to leave to search for the five film men and two relief aviators. After braving the arctic's blast for three weeks, R. S. Merrill, pilot; Charles G. Clarke, director, and Jack Robertson, cameraman, are recovering in a makeshift hospital at Point Barrow from the exposure suffered on their long hike.
