Summary:30 YEARS AGO. 30 YEARS AGO. J. W. Anderson who owns the Bayer place farmed by Prank Jones is planting two acres of field peas this year on summerfallow as an experiment. The meeting at which property owners were to present their protests against the proposed paving district organization was held on Tuesday evening and not a single protest was presented. The Sprague Roller Mills have just finished an exceptionally heavy run of business. During the last week 25 cars of flour have been shipped. Nineteen went to Memphis, Tennessee the middle western states. The weather still remains cold and cloudy. The freeze during the night is not severe enough to keep farmers out of the field and work is progressing rapidly. Dr. D. M. Strang has erected a new garage on his residence property on Fourth street. Arthur Baldwin the past few days has been using his Ford automobile for harrowing and seeding. The machine is equipped with a Universal tractor attachment handled by bushel, the Sprague Garage. The Sprague Garage on Wednesday received their Bull Tractor and it is now on exhibition at the Sprague garage. It is the first machine of the kind ever shown here and is attracting considerable attention. A demonstration will be made on some farm the near future. All of the Sprague boys except Godfrey Bittner who enlisted in the navy are leaving Bremerton this week for San Francisco. Godfrey will remain indefinitely at Bremerton. Frank M. Rothrock and John Napier will leave soon tor the east, primarily to receive the $5500 Shorthorn purchased in Scotland. They will also purchase two or three cars of purebred shorthorns from Rey Denny a Free Methodist preacher has been gent to Tyler for coming year but will not arrive until June.
