SPRAGUE, Wash., Sept. 27. - Last week and this has been the time of leaving for a number of college and university students. Going to the University of Washington are Delmont Thorsland, Ronald Williams, Chas. Fish, Jr., Helen Salisbury and Carolyn Fish. Those at the state college at Pullman are Eddie Hintou and Helen Fenn. Students at the Cheney normal are Henry Stolp, Itha Wenchell, Hattie Smith and Elizabeth Smith, while Victor Hertrich Jr. has gone to Omaha, Nebraska, to resume his work in the dental college. A reception for for of the local schools was given at the Methodist church Friday evening, the list of instructors in the schools this year being as follows: Clarence J. Cooil, superintendent; Mr. Busch, principal of high school; Mr. Massey, manual training; Miss Folsum, mathematics; Miss Hannah, English; Miss Schuck, domestic science; Miss Wenhuser, seventh and eight grades; Miss Woodard, sixth grade; Miss Moylan, fifth grade; Miss Church, third and fourth grades; Mrs. Turpening Gresham, second grade; Miss Campbell, first grade. Rev. Wm. Cornall has been returned to Sprague for another year by the conference of the Methodist church. Miss Ella Fish returned to Seattle last week after spending her vacation at home for a month. Mr. and Mrs. A. Mills of Portland are in Sprague looking after their property and visiting Mr. Mills' sister, Mrs. Park Smalley. Miss Finetta Woodbury of Portland is visiting in town and attending to her business interests here. Mrs. C. P. Dey returned last week from the east where she has been with her mother for a month. Mrs. Claude McElwain left Saturday for Livingston, Montana, to spend a month with her sister. Miss Eleanor Colburn is teaching in Pasco and left for her new work the first of last week. Miss Sadie Smith has been engaged this year to teach at Hartline, Washington. Iceland, oldest son of Albert Jones, had the index finger of the right hand taken off Saturday in a washing machine. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Greenwood of Seattle, have been in town for a few days. They are old pioneers of this community and were kept busy the short time they were here. Ernest Doerschlog has moved onto the Jim Murray place which has recently been owned by Wm. Olwell. Little Miss Rhea Harris of Reardan has returned home after spending a month at her Grandpa Fish's home. Miss Kate Neeley is teaching one of the schools near town and spends much of the week-end time in town. Mrs. Dan Whipple returned home Sunday from a visit with her parents at Wilbur. Miss Margaret Brislawn is in Spokane where she has taken up her new work as head of the Daughters of Isabelle home. Dr. and Mrs. D. M. Strang, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Axtell, Mrs. E. A. Child and Miss Pauline Child attended the grand opera in Spokane Tuesday night, motoring tooth ways. Mrs. Louis Brislawn is visiting her people in St. Louis, Mo. Last week Mrs. C. J. Cooil and children joined Mr. Cooil. They have been spending the summer at their ranch near Elk, Washington. The Women's Progressive club held its first meeting Thursday night at the home of Mrs. Clarence Brown. Nearly forty were present and following the business session a reception was held. Mrs. Ivan Putman is visiting her people in Kansas for six weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Al Kenney of Sedro Woolley, spent a few days this week with Mrs. Kennedy, brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Laws. Dr. and Mrs. WTm. Gresham entertained a few guests Friday at an informal dinner at their new home. An announcement is out that Miss Bessie Ringwood and James Goffney were married Sept. 16th at Sprague. Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Buckley entertained Tuesday evening at dinner.Covers were laid for seven. A dance was given Friday night at the Masonic hall in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Comer, who are leaving for North Yakima to locate.
