Summary:State's Farm Wages At High Level. State's Farm Wages at High Level. Washington farm wages will average higher this year than in any state west of the Alleghenies except California. In four North Atlantic states, farm wages will exceed those in this state. This is revealed in a current survey just issued by the Alexander Hamilton institute, which points to a 20 per cent decrease in farm pay this year as compared with last. The institute places the average wage cut in this state at 19.5 per cent, although farmers of Columbia, Whitman and Spokane counties last week adopted a 1931 harvest wage scale average 25 per cent below last year's levels. The local cuts ranged from 20 to 35 per cent. The survey places the average per day farm wage in Washington at $2.95 without board, as compared with $3.60 without board last year. The monthly wage without board this year is set at $59.75 as compared with $74.25 in 1930. For the nation as a whole, the daily wage without board is estimated at $1.80 compared with $2.27 and the monthly figure at $38.37 compared with $47.81. Washington farm wages average the highest this year of the four northwest states. The monthly wage in Montana is $56 and the daily wage $2.60; in Idaho, $62.25 and $2.70, and in Oregon, $57 and $2.65. For the 11 western states the monthly wage averages $65.02 and the daily pay, $2.73. The South Atlantic and South Central states show the lowest farm wage level in the country. The monthly wage in the South Atlantic territory is $26.44 and the daily wage, $1.23. In the South Central area, the monthly wage is $26.62 and the daily wage, $1.16.
