Summary:Washington Evens Up Series: Pitcher Rode Hitting Star: U. Of W. Hurler Gets Four Safe Blows And Scores Two Runs Against State College- Score Seven To Four. Washington Evens Up Series: Pitcher Rode Hitting Star: U. Of W. Hurler Gets Four Safe Blows And Scores Two Runs Against State College- Score Seven To Four. Getting two runs and four hits out of four times at bat and sending seven of his opponents to the bench via the strikeout route. Pitcher Al Rode of the University of Washington, led his nine to a 7 to 4 victory over Washington State college on University diamond yesterday afternoon. The game was the second of a two-game series between the two state institutions, W. S. C. taking the first by a 5 to 4 score. Visitors in tend. With the Cougars on the long of a 4 to 2 score up to the eighth inning, matters looked bad for the university. Errors in fielding on the part of the Dodgers gave Washington State an advantage that seemed first inning permitted Pockey, W. S. C. second baseman, to make first. After advancing to second on a sacrifice hit, he completed the circuit on a two base hit by Hanlet. Two mere points were added to the score in the second inning, and the Cougars final run came in the seventh. The Universities score column remained clear until the fifth inning, when Torrance made the circuit Dodger followers were banking on the seventh for the traditional comeback, and when it netted only one run the game was considered lost. Chamberlain Scores. The eighth brought the deluge looked for in the seventh, however. Chamberlain netted the first run of the inning by a slide for the plate, the ball by a hair. Land, who followed Chamberlain, attempted the same feat, but was thrown out. When Pitcher Rode went to bat there were two out and W. S. C. was still one run ahead. Pigott, university first baseman, was waiting at third for a chance to score. Rode hit bringing in Pigott and maintaining his 1,000 per. cent, hitting average for the game. Rode worked himself to third and then brought in the run that put the Sun Dodgers in the lead. The eighth netted five runs. The summary: U. of W.— AB. R. H. PO. A. E.
