Description
Summary:The empire builder's empire. / by C. H. Heffelfinger. Indian wars following the treaties. - You will recall that last week we traced Governor Stevens in his journeys over what was then Washington Territory, while he made several treaties with the Indians. He made one with the Sound Indians, one near where the city of Chehalis now stands, one over at Point No Point, and one near the mouth of the Straits at Neah Bay. And then he made one journey east of the mountains and a big meeting was held in the Walla Walla valley where the city of that name now stands. After this meeting Stevens went over into Montana. Here he met with the Flathead and Blackfoot tribes--who, you will remember, had been antagonistic to the whites ever since the time of Lewis and Clark.
