Description
Summary:Fire and Icy gales Whip Juneau FIRE AND ICY GATES WHIP JUNEAU JUNEAU, Alaska.—(UP)—Fire, fanned by gales that reached near hurricane force, threatened Juneau today but the flames were brought under control before they could spread. The fire started in a garage. The wind at times reached 75 miles per hour in gusts off Taku glacier. The icy gale, usually blowing at 40 miles per hour, caused several thousand dollars damage by blowing roofs off houses, smash- :ng windows and collapsing a seaplane hangar.
