SEATTLE, Oct. 9.—A terrific storm, with a high tide which sv/ept the village airport landing field under V. feet of water, sunk all small boats anc washed away five native homes, lashec Bethel, on the Kuskokwim river o: western Alaska today, the army signal corps reported here. No loss of life was mentioned ir first reports, although the Bethel mission described it as the "worst storm in 50 years," the signal corps said. The dock of the Northern Commercial company, on the river, was reported under water and breaking up under the lashing of the waters. Three airplanes were on the landing field when it was submerged. The coast guard cutter Northland, at St. Lawrence island in Bering sea; was ordered to race to the stricken area.
