| Summary: | Alaska Ship Trade Close To Normal ALASKA SHIP TRADE CLOSE TO NORMAL By E. J. DALBY With Alaska vessels, which had been marooned at Vancouver, B. C, by the waterfront strike, all either back to Seattle or heading this way and with schedules steadying up in con'sequence, the Northern trade yesterday was approaching its normal status, except for the extra heavy freight and passenger bookings.' Arriving yesterday from Vancouver were the Alaska of the Alaska Steamship Company which docked at 3:15 a. m. in tow of- the tug Daniel Kern, and which sails on schedule Saturday for Southeastern and Southwestern ports; the Northland of the Northland Transportation Company which came in yesterday at 2 p. m. under her own power and the North Sea of the same fleet wtych arrived last night in tow of a Vancouver, B. C, tug. The Northland immediately started stowing cargo and since she had considerable freight on board which she had been unable to discharge in Alaska on account of the strike, she will get away tonight with a capacity cargo and passenger list for Southeastern points. The Norco of the same fleet cleared yesterday at 11:30 a. m. with a full load and capacity passenger list for Ketchikan only. BERING DUE TODAY Besides the Alaska of the Alaska Steamship Company, the freighter Bering is due this morning at 8 o'clock under her own power and will sail for Southeastern ports with a full cargo Friday or Saturday,, while the Depere with a ca- s par ty load for Southeastern and Southwestern ports, clears Satur-j Complete crews, officers men for the steamships Northwestern and Oduna, now at Vancouver, B. C, were dispatched in special buses yesterday. They will bring the ships here, both being due Friday. The Northwestern, a passenger carrier, clears about February 20 for Southeastern and Southwestern ports while the freighter Oduna will get away about five days later for the same range, with a capacity cargo. STARR TO BE OVERHAULED Meanwhile the Curacao is due this morning at 8 o'clock and sails for Southwestern ports about February 25. She will take over the Aleutian Island run for the Starr, permitting that ship, on completion of her first voyage since the strike ended, to return to Seattle for annual overhaul. The Starr will be back to Seward by the time the Curacao completes her voyage, releasing the latter for other Incidentally the Alaska, sailing Saturday, will connect with the Starr at Cordova, giving through freight and passenger service to the Starr's route. Sailing of the Alaska Transportation Company's steamship Evelyn Berg, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed until February 26 on account of repairs, need of which was discovered when the ship was drydocked yesterday. Inspection revealed that the tail shaft was cracked and this will be replaced with a new one. Besides this and other repairs there will be some important alterations making for the improvement of the ship.
