Hubbard, S. J., after a stay at the famous disappearing island which has puzzled arctic navigators for years. The anchorage was of inestimable value to ships in the Bering sea, the famous "glacier priest" said, providing a safe haven for vessels bound to and from Nome and other Bering sea ports.
