Description
Summary:Will Ship Salmon Direct to New York Will Ship Salmon Direct to New York KETCHIKAN, Alaska, Aug. 10. (AP) —Tyee. the Alaskan King salmon, will be taken for a long ride while he is being prepared for the American table, it was forecast today by the fishermen's announcement of a "floating cannery." The Alaska Trollers' Cooperative Marketing association made the first move in a revolutionary change in fishery operations by chartering the motorship Donna Lane, outfitted to store nearly 1,500,000 pounds of salmon, with the idea of stationing her directly on the fishing grounds. She is to stay there, freezing 86,000 pounds of fish daily, until filled, then head directly for New York by way of the Panama canal, thus eliminat-j ing several handlings of the catch and! by comparison reaching the eastern trade almost before the brine of the Bering sea is dry on the fish.
