Seventeen years ago, when an epidemic of influenza swept the civilized world, the medical profession was unprepared to combat it. Since that time studies have been made in many laboratories and substantial progress has been made in developing prophylactic measures. Even though a definite cure has not been found, it is possible to prevent illness and thereby the spread of the epidemic disease.
