Seventeen years ago, when an epidemic of influenza swept the civilized world, the medical profession was unprepared to combat it. Since that time studies have been made in many laboratories and substantial progress has been made in developing prophylactic measures. Even though a definite cure has not been found, it is possible to prevent illness and thereby the spread of the epidemic disease. The University of Pennsylvania medical school is one of the. most enterprising in the country. It has produced some of the outstanding men in the various branches of medicine. Scores of graduates are practicing in this city. The investigators from the Pennsylvania institution are making use of the speediest means of transportation. Airplanes
