While the Aleuts mostly inhabit the Aleutian Islands, some are found on the Alaska peninsula. Berg brought a print from the library of the former Russian czars to support his contention. It showed an Aleut from the Shumagin islands with a ceremonial staff in his hands. He said such ceremonial staffs were not used among Eastern Asiatic peoples but were common among North American Indians.
