Description
Summary:Natives of Aleutians Originated In U.S.? Natives Of Aleutians Originated In U.S.? VANCOUVER, B. C, June 7. (/P) —The theory that the natives of the Aleutian Islands of Alaska originated in America was advanced before the Pacific Science congress by Leo S. Berg of the academy of sciences, Leningrad. While the Aleuts mostly inhabit the Aleutian Islands, some are found on the Alaska peninsula. Berg brought a print from the library of the former Russian czars to support his contention. It showed an Aleut from the Shumagin islands with a ceremonial staff in his hands. He said such ceremonial staffs were not used among Eastern Asiatic peoples but were common among North American Indians.
