Japanese Oysters
As its name implies, the Japanese oyster (Crassostrea gigas) is not native to the Pacific Northwest but was introduced early in the 20th Century. It is also sometimes called the Pacific oyster. The shell of the Japanese or Pacific oyster is fluted and can reach a length of 12 inches.
