These canoes are in the rack up awaiting permission to land at Chemainus/Stz'uminus First Nation, Shell beach. Note how they hold each other in formation. Images in this collection document the Nisqually Indian Tribe's participation in the Tribal Canoe Journeys, an annual celebration of canoe culture by Coast Salish peoples from British Columbia, Oregon, and Washington. In 2004, the event was known as the "Paddle to Chemainus," hosted by the Stz'uminus First Nation.
