Summary:Eliza J. Olding was born on October 23, 1878 in Kittitas Valley to John and Elizabeth Olding. The Olding family arrived in the valley in 1871. Eliza (Lida) had five sisters. Lida attended the rural schools and the newly opened Washington State Normal School. She first taught in the rural schools of the Kittitas Valley before venturing to Nome, Alaska where she taught from 1905 to 1909. Lida moved California and retired from teaching in 1943. She married James Maguire. Lida died on July 27, 1973 at the age of 94 years.
