Summary:Edward Stiegler was born on October 9, 1873 in Arvastook County, Maine and moved west with his family shortly after his birth. The family lived in Astoria and The Dalles, Oregon, then Goldendale, Washington Territory before arriving in the Kittitas Valley and Ellensburg, Washington Territory in 1877. Edward’s parents homesteaded in the west side of the Yakima River on what is now Hanson Road. He was an Alaska pioneer going to Nome, Alaska Territory and Dawson City, Yukon Territory, Canada in 1899 where he stayed for eight years. Edward returned to Ellensburg, Washington for a short time then returned to Alaska in 1911 for nearly three years. On this final return to Ellensburg and the Kittitas Valley, he ranched on the family homestead until 1945. He died on February 16, 1961 at the age of 86 years.
