Summary:The needs for development in the chain of ash utilization for fores fertilizers in Finland was studied in this case study. It included the identification of difficult stages in the ash recycling process and potential solution for decreasing/elimination of these difficulties. The ash utilizing process has been developd in the municipality of Eno in Northern Karelia, in Eastern Finland, there ash from the bark boiler of Stora Enso's Enocell Pulp mills has been granulated at the Enotuhka Oy's granulation plant, which started operation in 1997. VTT Processes has implemented the case study. Some general barriers and suggestions for promoting actions for using wood ash for a forest fertilizer in Finland are presented in this paper.
