Summary:Hazardous waste is a waste stream of high concern due to the potential risks it poses to human health and the environment if not managed properly. It is therefore subject to intensive regulation in Europe and beyond. This report aims to shed some light on the generation and management of hazardous waste in Europe, based on the data provided by countries through the EU Waste Statistics Regulation, and published by Eurostat. A review of the data was performed to assess the sources and types of hazardous waste and their treat-ment. The study includes data from 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012 for EU-28 plus EEA member countries Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey.
