Summary:Autumn 2000 two remarkable animals stranded on the Belgian coast. On 7 November a live hooded seal Cystophora cristata Erxleben, 1777 stranded at Knokke-Heist. The animal, a young female of47 kg died a couple of hours later at the seal rehabilitation centre of National Sea Life Blankenberge. This was only the third record of a hooded seal from Belgium, after animals in March 1987 (Kruythooft, 1987) and October 1999 (Haelters & Kerckhof, 2000).
