Summary:The archeological research in Vitebsk Dvina area is insufficient for the study of migration processes in the Region in the period of the Great Migration of Nations and the solution of the problem of the time and the ways of Slavs populating Vitebsk Dvina area. The purpose of the article is introduction into scientific circulation of new materials which make it possible to reconstruct the main stages of the life of Zaronovo settlement and find out the ethnic identity of its inhabitants. Material and methods. The basis of the article is materials of the authors’ researches in the settlement in 2018 which were conducted with the help of archeological methods. While writing the article methods applied both in historic and archeological studies were used: the comparative and historic, the typological, of historical reconstruction, the mapping. Findings and their discussion. Studies, which were conducted on the settlement of Zaronovo for the first time, presented a rich collection of artifacts of the first half – third quarter of the 1st millenium A.D. which made it possible to identify the main stages of the existence of the settlement, and find out the ethnic identity of its inhabitants. Conclusion. The study of the settlement of Zaronovo as well as the finding of materials of a range of ancient objects of Kyiv culture and Abidni type on other monuments of Vitebsk Dvina area (Gorodok, Vyshadki, Zhukovo, Zagortsy) indicates that the ethnic processes of the 1st millenium A.D. were not limited by the interaction of the cultures of Dnieprodvinsk, stroked ceramics and Diakov. Since the second quarter of the 1st millennium A.D. the penetration of some early Slavonic groups into Vitebsk Dvina area, which resulted in gradual assimilation of the local Baltic population, is observed.
