Description
= Before 1940, Vyborg was the second largest city in Finland and a significant art center. The artistic image of Vyborg was very popular in the Finnish art of the 20 th century. The loss of the city by Finnish residents was vividly reflected in works of the artists. This article describes nostalgic Vyborg landscapes of Eeli Aalto, Vaino Rautio, Unto Pusa which expressed feelings of solidarity with the inhabitants of the Karelian Isthmus, who were forced to leave Vyborg in the 1940 s. The whole habitat, its material and spiritual world, as well as magnificent works of art disappeared with the departure of Finnish inhabitants. In their paintings and graphic works Finnish artists embodied the emotional expression of longing for Vyborg, shocking sensations and personal positions about the lost city after their departure, which the author defines as Vyborg "nostalgic landscape" associated with the Finnish mentality. This is the mythologization of the way of life, the symbolism of depicted objects, as well as the introversion of nature of the Vyborg Region and its perception as a part of soul.
