Summary: | The typology ofScandinavian dialects is based onprosodic features, namely toneand intonation. We look at threevariables that account for thevariation between the large dialectgroups: 1. The value of thelexical tone in accent 2, 2. Whetherthere is one or two association pointsfor the tonal contour in compounds, and3. Whether there is spreading or interpolationbetween the lexical tone and the prominencetone in compounds. The relevance of thesevariables is illustrated by comparisons of real pronunciations fromseveral dialects, including Olso (East Norwegian), Göteborg (WestSwedish), Stockholm (Central Swedish), Norberg (Dala Swedish),Skåne (South Swedish), and Luleå (North Swedish). |
