Description
Summary:This statistical summary contains the numbers of unemployed jobseekers, generated in the Employment Service Statistics and presented by municipality. It also contains the percentage of unemployed jobseekers in the workforce. The information on unemployed jobseekers from 2019 is presented as average monthly figures. The labour data by municipality, from which the proportion of unemployed jobseekers is calculated, is from the employment statistics of Statistics Finland from 2017. The figure in question is used when calculating the percentage in all of the months of the year. The concept of unemployed jobseekers includes those jobseekers who were unemployed on the last working day of the month - the day of calculation - as well as those made temporarily redundant who had reported to an Employment and Economic Development Office. The highest average percentages of unemployed jobseekers in the workforce in 2019 were in the areas of Savukoski (17.2%), Ilomantsi (15.6%), Juuka (15.4%), Tohmajärvi (14.9%) and Lieksa (14.7%). Correspondingly, the lowest percentages in Continental Finland were in the following municipalities: Luoto (2.2%), Pedersöre (2.4%), Närpiö (3.3%) and Uusikaarlepyy (3.5%). In addition, the percentages of unemployed jobseekers in the workforce were very low in all municipalities in the Åland Islands, with the lowest in Lumparland (1.1%) and Föglö (1.7%). The proportion of unemployed jobseekers declined in 2019 from the previous year in 239 municipalities; the greatest drop was in Kannonkoski (-3.0 percentage points), Tuusniemi (-2.9 percentage points) and Pelkosenniemi (-2.7 percentage points). In Continental Finland the rise in 2019 was in 46 municipalities; most in Savukoski (2.5 percentage points), Merijärvi (1.5 percentage points) and Lestijärvi (1.3 percentage points).
