Description
Summary:Signed: yes Description: The subject of this painting is a pair of Icelandic falcons, a species bred for the sport of falconry. The work was painted by the Hungarian artist Jakob Bogdany, who specialised in painting animals, unusual birds and also flower-pieces. The painting is signed, a rarity in this artist's oeuvre. Bogdany, who received his training on the Continent, came to England at the turn of the eighteenth century and was made court painter to King William. He also received commissions from other wealthy English patrons, including the Duke of Albemarle. He died in England in 1724.
