Summary:The first Federal Courthouse constructed in 1905 was on a plot of land adjacent to Ketchikan's first Main School. The space between the two sites is now Grant Street and the Courthouse was where the Grant Street Playground now sits. It was a white boxy building, in sharp contrast to the Victorian gingerbread of the school house with its gables and cupola. The Main School building built in 1904.
