Description
Summary:Written on verso: Commencement 1928? HT Condon Filed in: UW - Ceremonies, Graduation (#814). The University of Washington began classes in 1861. The first graduate was a woman named Clara McCarty and she graduated in 1876. The first students to graduate at the current campus location were in 1894. Prior to 1894 any ceremonies would have taken place downtown. The Alaska-Yukon Pacific Exposition happened in 1909 which further shaped the campus and added new buildings. Many graduation ceremonies took place in the old Meany Hall auditorium building, which was built as part of the Alaska-Yukon Pacific Exposition. The old Meany Hall was destroyed in 1965.
