It said said that the ship was "hoodoo," and people often avoided it. When the Alaska Coast Co. renamed it, the company had hopes that it could be a first-class vessel and escape its reputation. Renovated and named the Yukon, she began service in 1912. She never escaped her reputation, however, as she struck a reef on June 18, 1913 while leaving the Bering Sea.
