Description
Summary:Caption on postcard: C.P.R. Co. S.S. Princess May - Draper & Co Filed in Ships - P S.S. Princess May was built in 1888 in northeast England and went by several names before she was sold to the Canadian Pacific Railway Coast Service in 1901, where she received her name. She was the first ship to be acquired by the newly formed company. On August 5, 1910, she ran ashore on Sentinel Island during high tide. Curiously enough, when the tide receded, she remained in an interesting position at 23 degrees above the horizontal. She was eventually able to be repaired as an oil burner and returned to service the year following her stranding. Princess May was sold in 1919, transferred to the Caribbean and was intentionally sunk in the 1930s.
