Description
Summary:Lwow, Austria In this oral history interview, Mr. Silver begins with discussing his early life in a small town near Lwow (formerly Lemberg in Galician Austria). The family lived briefly in New York City, moved later to Zanesville, and then to Columbus, OH. Upon graduation from high school in Columbus, Max came to Seattle and enrolled at the University of Washington in a pre-law program. WWI interrupted his academic activities. With Eimon Wienir he founded the UW Menorah (Jewish Student) Society. Silver was exceedingly active in Seattle business and civic organizations and occupied positions of leadership in the general community. He was a leading figure in Temple de Hirsch, Zionist organizations' activities, B'nai B'rith and many other organized activities. This accession is part of the Washington State Jewish Archives.
