Description
Summary:PH Coll 246.326 [Meed journal: "Panorama of Dawson, Y.T. 5 feet in length backed with linen in roll form. View taken Sept. 1902 from the opposite side of the Yukon. It shows the river in the foreground, the entire waterfront, docks, steamboats and many other features. The high tower supported a wire cable which extended across the river to a high point on the hill. Along this a trolley connected by ropes to a barge gave a ferry service both ways, driven by the force of the current. The steamboat in front of the tower is the "Prospector" The dock where it is morred was built by me on a waterfront site leased for 25 years from the Dominion government which reserved all the waterfront for transportation concerns at a rental foot of frontage, payable annually. Along the left of the "Prospector" a larger steamboat is moored at the combined docks of the White Pass & Yukon Route. The one on the left was previously the Canadian Development Co. dock, the other previously the Yukon Dock. The hollow scar or landmark at the left end of the photo on the hillside is the result of an ancient landslide. The pile of rubble at the base was the site of many log cabins. On the back of this photo is an x marking our first log cabin home in Dawson on the foot hill with my wife standing on the corner of the porch."] To order a reproduction, inquire about permissions, or for information about prices see: http://www.lib.washington.edu/specialcollections/services/reproduction/reproduction Please cite the Order Number
