Printed beneath title cartouche is a legend comparing German miles to other units of distance. Printed in upper right corner is an inset map of the North Pole, Greenland, Hudson's Bay and Baffin's Bay with the inscription: "Das Nordliche Polarland." Printed in the lower left corner is an inset map of the United States with a title cartouche inscription: "Karte von der Republik der Vereingten Dreyzehen Staaten in Nord Amerika." Printed beneath title cartouche in inset map of United States is a scale of German miles. Printed in upper left corner is an inset map of modern-day Alaska and the edge of Russia. Printed in lower left corner outside borders: "VI." Main map shows "Quivira" as northwestern region of modern-day United States. Northern California is marked as New Albion or "Neu Albion." Along the far northwest coast of North America are notes about geographical discoveries, explorers' landings and dates including Sir Francis Drake and Captain George Dixon. Title cartouche surrounded by flowers. Areas where Native American tribes reside are indicated throughout the map. The title cartouche for the inset map of the United States is decorated with flowers, ribbon and leaves. Thsi map shows several states including "Georgien," "Sud Carolina," "Nord Carolina," "Virginien,," "Pennsylvanien," "Neu York", Massachusets," "Connecticut," and "Neu Main." The Great Lakes are depicted as well as land belonging to various Native American tribes including the "Chikasaws," "Chaktaw," and "Chiktaghik." In the inset map of modern-day Alaska, there are areas marked for various Native American tribes including "Dog Ribbd Oder[illegible]ben Indianer" and "Arathapescow Indianer." Shows the "Arktische Meer" and "Kamtschadalische Meer." Also shows a line marking the Arctic Circle labeled as "Nordlicher Polarzirkel." Depicts the Bering Strait as "Anian Oder Cook Strasse." [W 150 degrees-W 10 degrees / N 40 degrees - S 40 degrees]. Franz Johann Joseph von Reilly (1766-1820) was a Viennese art dealer, mapmaker and publisher. He was one of the first Austrians to publish an atlas. His works include "Schauplatz der Welt Atlas" (1789-91), "Deutscher Atlas" (1796) and "Atlas Univ." (1799) (Tooley, 533). Kilian Ponheimer was an engraver for Reilly's publishing house in Vienna. His works include "Amerika" (1795) and "Switzerland" (1796) (Tooley, 514). Tooley, Ronald Vere.
