Atop the flagpole is the flag of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition of 1909, dating the picture. Bill Phalen's Reliance General Store occupied the north half of the ground floor. In 1908 the name was changed to W.W. Phalen, Your Grocer. Mr. Brassington owned a meat market in the south half of the ground floor. Signs on building read: Jas. Brassington. Rainier Valley Market.
