Summary:Knights of Pythias Hall was built in 1892 with the ornate facade which endured until 1941. The second floor was a frequent meeting place of lodges, community affairs, and social gatherings. Bill Phalen bought the building in the early 1900s and the second floor became known as Phalen Hall. Atop the flagpole is the flag of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition of 1909, dating the picture. Bill Phalen's Reliance General Store occupied the north half of the ground floor. In 1908 the name was changed to W.W. Phalen, Your Grocer.
