Description
Summary:The Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition (AYPE) was a world's fair held in Seattle to publicize the development of the Pacific Northwest. The fairgrounds were located on the campus of the University of Washington and were open from June 1, 1909, to October 16, 1909. Several of the buildings and the landscaping survive, continuing to shape the layout of the campus. The book of pre-paid ticket coupons pictured here was issued to Lewis Gates Whittelsey (1870-1941), a New Yorker who began working for the Seattle Water Department around 1905. Mr. Whittelsey paid $10 for his booklet of 100 tickets, of which 84 have been removed. The tickets were non-transferable, and a photograph of Mr. Whittelsey is attached to the inside cover of the booklet. 1 ticket book; 3 x 5 in.
