Description
Summary:Planographic prints--lithographs; Illustrated with color printed lithographs. This book was used to advertise "Hanford's Balsam of Myrrh: an external remedy for the human system and domestic animals." This liniment was used for the treatment of open wounds and also injuries such as kicks, bruises, strains, lameness, etc. Each letter of the alphabet represents an animal or member of Noah's family. Includes illustrations and reminders for different uses of the liniment. K is for kangaroo, L is for lamb, M is for musk-ox, and N is for Noah and his wife who are depicted feeding birds and squirrels. The G.C. Hanford Manufacturing Company was established in 1846 by George C. Hanford and sold diverse products that ranged from flavoring extracts and baking powder to Celery Cure and Balsam of Myrrh. The recipe for Balsam of Myrrh was given to Hanford's parents by a doctor who often stayed at their farm. G.C. Hanford Manufacturing Company was renamed Hanford Pharmaceutical and is now a major antibiotics producer for several international pharmaceutical corporations.
