Description
Summary:This shows the back of a C-130 Hercules, which is the work horse of Antarctica. These airplanes are ski-equipped. They’re the world’s largest ski-equipped aircraft. There are large aluminum skis that are on their wheels that can be lowered down below the wheels so that they can land on the ice and snow, but the turboprop engines give very good flight characteristics, very stable. There’s a large area in the back of it so you can load a lot of material in it. But, as I said, these are the work horses of Antarctica. They fly all over the continent. All of our supplies are brought in by these C-130s. By the way, this is taken in Christchurch, New Zealand, before it goes to Antarctica. That’s why there’s no snow.
