Description
Summary:On verso of image: Fairbanks Creek The sign reads: "Discovery Saloon F C Griffin, Prop." Filed in Alaska--Cities/Location--Fairbanks Fairbanks Creek was a mining camp located about 28 miles northeast of Fairbanks. The proprietor, Frank C. Griffin, is listed in the 1907-8 Alaska-Yukon Directory and Gazetteer under Meehan, not Fairbanks Creek, as Meehan was the post office for Fairbanks Creek at the time. Next to his name are the words "roadhouse Discovery". There is no mention of the Discovery or Frank Griffin in either the 1905-6 or 1909-10 editions, which would date this photo and the Saloon to about 1907/8.
