Description
Summary:Clifford 114 The Fur Rendezvous is a winter festival that takes place annually in late February in Anchorage. The festival was founded in 1935 by Vern Johnson to coincide with the time when fur trappers came to town to sell their furs. The festival was canceled during World War II but resumed in 1946. The blanket toss was added as an event in 1950. The blanket toss comes from the Eskimo spring whaling festival Nalukataq, in which community members used a walrus-skin as a trampoline.
