His glacial studies included an extended survey of the Glacier Bay region in 1890 and 1892. With a team of five others, he mapped the glacier area of over 900 square miles. His research continued for several years, and his findings were published in a paper on the Glacier Bay area of Alaska in 1896. (16th Annual Report., U. S. Geological Survey). Mount Abdallah and Rendu Glacier were named by Reid in the 1890's.
